WHAT IS A GENERATOR?
Electrical generators are standalone machines that provide electricity when power from the local grid is unavailable. Industrial generators are often used to supply backup power to facilities, businesses, or homes during power outages but they can also be used as a primary power source in areas where a local electrical grid is unavailable or difficult to access such as mining and farming operations or even new developments and construction.
It’s possible to buy or hire a generator for just about any need. Some electrical generators are small, portable devices that are used for camping or hobbies to provide small amounts of power for just a few devices. Others are permanent installations that are capable of maintaining full power to manufacturing facilities, hospitals, schools, prisons and office complexes.
WHAT IS A UPS?
An uninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power source (UPS) is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails. A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator in that it will provide near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions, by supplying energy stored in batteries, supercapacitors, or flywheels. The on-battery run-time of most uninterruptible power sources is relatively short (only a few minutes) but sufficient to start a standby power source or properly shut down the protected equipment. It is a type of continual power system.
A UPS is typically used to protect hardware such as computers, data centers, telecommunication equipment or other electrical equipment where an unexpected power disruption could cause injuries, fatalities, serious business disruption or data loss. UPS units range in size from units designed to protect a single computer without a video monitor (around 200 volt-ampere rating) to large units powering entire data centers or buildings.
UPS Maintenance is extremely important. Without correct maintenance and upkeep there is a possibility that the UPS will not kick in when the time comes. Our technicians will test the UPS, check the batteries and advise on any defects or servicing required.
